It was on this theory that I let the boys wear superhero costumes to the school international week parade. Everyone is supposed to wear a costume representing their home country.
However, when Emmett, as batman, repeated my theory to his British teacher, she found it very objectionable. As did several other Brits.

Thomas' class sang a song from china.
The 5th graders performed a hula and surf dance to represent Hawaii. It brought down the house. I was so proud.

Was the teacher able to name any British super heroes??
No. But other friends suggested someone named V. Also dr who, the invisible man, and the league of extraordinary gentlemen. To which I responded, "ok, but *real* superheroes?".

If the clothes that Thomas and Emmett wore to their school parade made them FEEL American then the whole project was a success

Aquaman lives in international waters and seems Canadian.
For next years international parade of costumes I have a stack of Isod shirts in a closet in Maine, all with the the alligator sewed on the front - totally American.
