To avoid alarming anyone unduly, maybe I should add a postscript to the last bit stating that the rumors of looting of private villas turned out to be false, except for one palatial residence belonging to someone in Mubarak's family somewhere in an entirely different part of town. So there was never a real danger of the house getting sacked. I could kind of tell that at the time-- it just didn't sound/feel as if mobs of angry people were wandering around the neighborhood. It was true that the police station a half mile away was attacked and burned, but there were no police in it.
